United Regain the Premier League
United reclaimed the Premier League title after overcoming an eight-point deficit to Arsenal during the season. Ruud van Nistelrooy was outstanding, scoring 25 league goals and 44 across all competitions, while the team’s strong finish saw them end five points clear at the top. The arrival of Rio Ferdinand strengthened the defence, and United’s attacking play became increasingly effective as the campaign progressed. Their late-season surge demonstrated the experience, determination and winning mentality that had defined Ferguson’s best teams. United also won the 2003 Community Shield, beating Arsenal 4–3 on penalties after a 1–1 draw, with Mikaël Silvestre scoring their goal in normal time.
