League Cup Silverware
United finished second in the Premier League behind Chelsea but secured silverware by winning the League Cup. They defeated Wigan Athletic 4–0 in the final, with Wayne Rooney scoring twice and Louis Saha and Cristiano Ronaldo adding the other goals. Rooney continued to establish himself as a central figure in the team, while Ronaldo’s growing influence hinted at the partnership that would help drive future success. The season was also marked by Roy Keane’s departure in November following his public criticism of the team, signalling the end of an important era at Old Trafford. Although United fell short in the league, the League Cup gave the squad a trophy and provided a foundation for their next title challenge.
